What's the point of going to Mass if we don't want to?

We have to attend the liturgy (mass), even if we're standing there like pieces of dead wood.

You say to yourself: "I'm not in my right mind, I don't understand anything, my mind can't concentrate. "And you leave the church.

A staretz tells you, "When you go to an incense store, you walk out, and without meaning to, your clothes smell good, even though you're not buying anything. "That's what happens when you go to liturgy.

Maybe you don't feel in a favorable spiritual state, but even if you go to church as available as a piece of wood, it won't be without benefit.

So say to yourself, "I'll go as I am," like an ill-squared log. And God knows how to cut, clean and polish that rough-hewn log himself."

And if you don't go because you say to yourself "I can't, I'm not concentrating", then things will get worse and you'll never get better.

Metropolitan Bishop of Limassol Athanasius
